Is this idea worth pursuing?
As an artist, you may often catch yourself with this question in mind: Is this idea worth pursuing? And too often, your answer may be – no. So what could’ve been the beginning of fruitful artistic research reaches its end (even before having begun).
If you find yourself in these words, please, please keep reading.
It is helpful to know that your best series of works (so far) will start as a tiny piece of inspiration. If you think of an idea as a whole puzzle, you should know that at the beginning, you rarely have more than one puzzle piece in your hands. This piece appears alone in your mind, probably followed by a gentle excitement. You will find out what all the other pieces of the puzzle are in time – while working on the idea.
It is important not to “kill” your idea at the early stage. (At this point it may not even be anything visual yet.)
The early idea doesn’t need your evaluation. Instead, it needs you to research its possibilities. To play around with it and experiment. To wonder and discover it slowly.
So whenever you ask yourself the question “Is this artistic idea worth pursuing?” the answer is YES. For the sole reason it appered in your mind. Cause you felt something. Cause it was this idea and not another one.
Cause this is the way authentic ideas are born (and then you have to develop them).
