Scrolling for inspiration?
Have you been scrolling social media for inspiration lately? Have you been looking for work that will somehow resonate and make you get started? How did it go? Did you take your brushes and start painting immediately, feeling inspired and energetic?
I bet you didn’t.
Why is that?
Cause when scrolling social media and looking at the works of others, the thing that is most likely to happen is far from what you want. Your brain starts comparing your work to other people’s. Not a very creative activity, is it? And depending upon your self-confidence at that moment, you may even end up less motivated to create than before you started.
(Plus, you will have less time for creation.)
Or another thing can happen. Having seen something you like, your brain may want to try to do the same. So ups, you end up in copying mode. Not very creative either.
Remember: scrolling and looking at other people’s work can turn you into a longterm passive spectator. To find inspiration and make art, you’d better try something else. It might be as simple as going for a walk.
