Painting Does This to People
The other day, I talked to a few artists I had just started to mentor two weeks ago about how they felt about painting in my in-person class. Besides seeing people’s progress on their paintings, I am also used to checking how they feel, but I usually don’t expect dramatic changes to happen so fast.
One person who has become a mum quite late in life (like myself) and is in a very stressful job said: “I am usually so exhausted after work I am used to going to bed just after my 10-year-old. But last week, after the painting class, I had so much energy, I didn’t feel like going to bed until very, very late!”
Another person (who came to my classes to find her own voice) joined the conversation smiling: “So much is already happening to me…” I wasn’t quite sure what events she was referring to, so I asked her what she meant. “Well, the morning after the last class, I saw in my mind so clearly – not one, but three paintings I am going to paint!” she replied, laughing.
“It is my third week of painting, and I am already feeling much more confident,” said a third person with her eyes shining beautifully.
I was so excited to hear these things that I wanted to share them with you. Cause this is what making art does to people, even after just a few weeks.
How does making art make you feel? I’d love to hear from you.
