Wonder what to paint today?

Great! Everything is ready for a painting session: you have the time, the materials, space.
But … your mind is blank. I mean totally. It doesn’t cooperate. No idea. Not even a tiny one.
You wait, try thinking of something, wait a bit more, start to get anxious, your anxiety rises, rises, and rises …
That is a fenomena I see from time to time. People come to my classes directly from meetings, worried after fighting with their teenagers or after whatever life has put in front of them that day. And they cannot switch to making art immediately.
No wonder. We are not machines.
The best way to help yourself when this happens is to let the material lead you for a while.
When I see stress hormones rising on the artists I mentor, I usually advise them to start playing with the material. To start mixing colors on the pallette, for example.
They surrender themselves to the power of the material. Take the time to do it and slowly unwind. Mixing colors becomes a meditation practice.
After a while, they start painting.
Their minds get creative, and their faces start smiling again.
You might want to try this out. I’d be happy to hear how it worked for you;)
