I keep seeing an interesting phenomenon among people who want to start painting again …
They keep thinking, talking and dreaming about it. But … delay taking a brush in their hand, even for several years.
One of the reasons they state is that they are too tired to be able to paint.
Sounds familiar?
As someone who has spent years in the corporate world, I know how exhausting such jobs can be. You give your best at work. But at the end of the day, your energy level is zero. You come home and don’t even think of gathering your art supplies … Today, tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow.
I know how this very dangerous vicious circle looks from the inside. And I know it doesn’t break on its own.
Waiting for a magical switch into energy mode is not a good option cause you might be waiting forever. What you CAN do instead is to start painting DESPITE being tired. Just a little bit. Without having a huge goal. With a tiny aim: just playing with colors.
When you do that, amazing things start happening. You start enjoying the process and feel excited. This brain of yours finally focuses on the now, forgetting everything else. This, of course, relaxes you. And YOU GET MORE ENERGY. No matter how tired you were at the beginning.
I see that happening all the time. People come to my in-person classes exhausted, feeling empty, and nervous. Then they start to paint and relax gradually. Being present while painting, playing, and exploring refills them with energy.
They leave the studio renewed and in touch with themselves.
So, next time you think you’re too tired, remember: yes, you are. And because of that, you need to paint. Start painting, and play with colors for a while. Reclaim your energetic self.
