A wise friend of mine likes to say: “Something must always sting you – at least a pebble in your shoe …”
And the truth is, it is rarely just a pebble isn’t it?
Our life journey is full of transitions. A lot of stuff happens.
We might experience divorce, move across the country, or launch children into adulthood.
We get sick and take a long time to recover… leave a career to start a business… we become caregivers for elders.
Whatever it is, we need to acknowledge it and allow ourselves to heal and nurture our souls.
You’ll know what I mean if you have been through a transition like that. You might feel you need to reinvent yourself in some way.
I am writing this cause I want you to know it is possible, surprising, and exciting – while make art.
I’ve seen it again and again with people in my art classes.
I love that it happens “by the way” while you are playing and making something out of nothing.
The “nothing” is the inner content that pushes you into creation.
Sometimes it contains things like fascination, curiosity, love, and sometimes – things like grief, anger, or fear.
And all these things get transformed in the art-making process (not only art materials). So besides the resulting artwork, the “something” is your renewed self.
Beautiful, courageous, joyful parts of the new you.
The healing power of art never ceases to amaze me.
